FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH

A national training programme, the Mental Health First Aid is suitable for all  employees and businesses. This is a 12 hour evidence based course usually delivered over 2 days.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is obtained. MHFA does not teach people to be therapists. HOWEVER, it does teach people how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to guide a person towards the appropriate professional help.

This is an effective and evidence based programme that helps address the gap in early intervention in mental ill health issues.

‘This programme will make a big difference to our workplace! We concentrate on preventing and dealing with physical incidents but were lacking in both confidence and understanding of mental ill health issues. Having Mental Health First Aider’s on site enables us to help prevent stress and anxiety building and intervene much earlier if problems do arise.’

A lot of effort was taken to accommodate different learning styles and levels of knowledge/understanding’

‘I liked the techniques aimed at creating empathy for people with mental illness’

‘A very good course and well presented’

‘Thought provoking...sharing of opinions, ideas and thoughts was good. Very interactive!’
